News Story on my Local MP
SCHOOL’S NOT OUT FOR LOCAL MP
NICK HURD, local MP for Ruislip and Northwood recently swapped the House of Commons to go back to school.
The Tory MP, went back to The Harefield Academy to spend some time shadowing support teachers, after a student from the academy spent a few weeks shadowing him.
The principal of The Harefield Academy had previously contacted Mr Hurd to request that one of her Year Ten students, Cassandra Fitzgerald, may be considered to accompany her local MP as part of her work experience.
The Year Ten student accompanied Mr. Hurd for 3 weeks and saw everything from Prime Ministers Question Time to working through his database of constituents.
Mr. Hurd commented,“I thought, why not have the return match, so I offered to shadow support teachers and Cassandra at the academy for a week…”
He added: “It was my first time back at school for many years, but it was a great insight into the academy, which is a wonderful place. It is really moving in the right direction in my opinion. I was impressed by the teaching, and the facilities are great. It was a fascinating week, and I got a lot out of it.”
Lynn Gadd, school principal, said: “We were very pleased Nick Hurd came to the school. It was a very positive experience, and both students and staff felt he listened to them.”
She continued, He engaged with the students on lots of issues. We do have a lot of visitors here, but it’s very rare for so many people to come up to me and say what a pleasure it was.”
Nick Hurd is currently involved in The National Framework for Sustainable Schools in the Ruislip and Northwood area, and is trying to help schools evaluate their current efforts in order to create a better working environment.
